Virtual LEO I - iOS App: Privacy Policy

The Virtual LEO I app for iOS / iPad OS does not track user behavior in any way, nor does it gather information about you or pass it on to us or to any third party.

Local Storage

Functions that require storage of data, such as when you Save your progress or if you Collect an item, are all handled locally on your device. We do not use any cloud services to store Saved data centrally, so this information is never transmitted over the internet. As a result, if you uninstall the app, any saved data you may have had will be lost and is unrecoverable. There is no way for us to retreive saved progress as a result.

View in Archive

The team at The Centre for Computing History have worked tirelessly for 3 years to assemble, assess, store and catalogue a vast array of original artefacts from the time of LEO I's creation - including physical hardware, photographs, letters, notebooks and many other documents.

One of the core aims for the Virtual LEO I app was to provide a route in to select items in the LEO Archive, enabling users to discover some of these valuable historical assets, and perhaps even browse further.

The "View in Archive" button inside Virtual LEO I as well as any photographic content included in the archive, when pressed will launch your web browser and open the relevant LEO Archive web page for that item. This means you will briefly be leaving the Virtual LEO I app, and entering the LEO Archive - part of The Centre for Computing History's website.

The Centre for Computing History's website (https://www.computinghistory.org.uk) tracks user behavior by default and includes cookies for the purposes of gathering anonymous traffic statistics. This anonymised data may be passed on to third parties, including Google Analytics and Google Fonts. No data from your use of the Virtual LEO I app is included in this and they remain entirely separate.

Watch Video

In order to keep the file size of the Virtual LEO I app as small as possible, video content is hosted using a third party provider - currently Vimeo or YouTube.

The "Watch Video" button inside Virtual LEO I, when pressed, will launch your web browser and open the relevant video link on either the Vimeo or YouTube platforms.

Both of these third party sites may track user behavior. This is beyond the scope of our control.

The Future

We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy at any time in the future, and without prior warning. If you have any questions or concerns, or for any clarification, please contact us.
